Transportation of the Dead

Transportation of all deceased persons falling under Coroner’s jurisdiction will be accomplished by a County vehicle and pursuant to the Coroner’s direction.  Deceased persons will be transported to a reasonably close hospital morgue for further examination - or pending the family’s final mortuary arrangements.

Once the Coroner has completed his examination and released jurisdiction over the bodily remains, the decedent’s family will be responsible for contacting a funeral home of their choice for final disposition.

The county commissioners are responsible for furnishing and maintaining, with resources from the county’s general funds, a vehicle for the Coroner to remove the bodies of deceased persons to and from hospital morgues.

Whenever the body of any deceased person is unidentified, or remains unclaimed by proper persons, the disposition of the body will fall under the jurisdiction of the Coroner.  The coroner shall, if he deems it necessary, order the embalming or cremation of such bodily remains, pending final arrangements.
